As smart phones and their platforms continue to get more complicated with the passage of time, solutions for storing and displaying all of that information easily continue to become bigger problems for the app community to deal with. Although it is by no means perfect, Open Home app for Android will give you a very good way to sort through a lot of information.

Talk To Me Android App Review

Talk To Me is a free real time foreign language speech-to-speech translator app made for Android phones. It helps translate spoken English to 40 different foreign languages. Using the app is simple; choose the language you want the translation in before mouthing your phrase in English. Talk To Me Android app will readily give a voice translation of the phrase you’ve said in the language of your choice. Further, you could send the translated voice file via email or as SMS text messages to your friends. Apart from English, the app also offers text to speech support for many other languages, plus text-to-text translation for Asian and Arabic languages. The Talk To Me app for Android is downloadable for free of cost.

Talk To Me Android App Features

The user interface of the Android Talk To Me app is uncluttered and hence easy to use. There is a text box wherein you could type in your phrase, and the translated results will be displayed in another text box below. On top of the two text boxes is a dropdown menu, from which you choose the language to translate to. Further, above the dropdown menu is a green microphone icon. Tapping on the same will activate the voice recognition software, enabling the user to dictate the phrase in spoken English, instead of typing it.

As of now, the Talk To Me Android application only supports English dictation, with speech to text supported for Spanish, German, French, and Italian. Text to speech support is available for many other languages, with the exception of Asian and Arabic languages wherein only textual translation is available at present. Hopefully, the future versions of the app will incorporate text to voice support for Asian/Arabic languages as well.

In order to use the Talk To Me mobile application, you need to have an active internet connection as the app uses the Google Translate service. Further, you have to install the TTS or text-to-speech data if to take advantage of the app’s voice recognition software. Finally, the Talk To Me app runs only on Android OS 1.6 or higher.

Conclusion

If you travel often to foreign shores, or have a penchant for learning new languages, the Talk To Me app might be the one you would love to have in your Android handset. Not only it is easy to use, but also has been found to be craftier than the Google’s own voice to text feature. Above all, the Talk To Me Android app can be downloaded for free.

Earthquake Android App Review

Earthquake! Android app keeps tracks of all earthquake activity happening around the globe. Based on the input provided by the US Geological Survey, the app pinpoints the location of such activity on the Google Maps. Android Earthquake! app even shows a ‘rumble zone’ and ‘damage zone’ to clearly indicate the areas which will be/had affected in the tremors.

Android Earthquake! App Features

The initial screen shows recent earthquake activities happened in different parts of the world, with its intensity on the Richter scale. With the aid of Google Maps, you could even investigate on the epicentre of the quake, and yes wonder to oneself how it would have been had you were present right there at the time of the catastrophe.

Also, Android Earthquake! mobile application lets one set to receive a notification when a new earthquake event happened anywhere in the world. Yes, you won’t be interested in receiving reminders every time an earthquake of intensity ‘1’ on the Richter scale happens anywhere on the earth. For that, you could even set a series of filters so that you’ll be informed about truly earth shattering quakes only, and not mere rumbles of low intensity.

Further, the Earthquake! App lets you use the location services to pinpoint your exact location on the Google Map at a given time, and tailor your alerts accordingly. This feature is especially handy if you’re on a trip abroad to a country, which sits on an earthquake zone. The app also comes with a home screen widget that will provide to the user up-to-the-minute reports of recent earthquakes, once located.

Final Thoughts

Earthquake! app for Android may not be an everyday-use type of application. But it comes really handy if you happen to go to the chaotic places on the earth, where frequent quakes are the norm. We recommend our users to try this app out in their Android devices. And above all, Earthquake! app is a free download.

ShapeWriter Android App Review

With many latest Android devices sporting a physical QWERTY keypad and a virtual touch screen one, there may be few who argue that users are spoilt for choice when it comes to picking a method for inputting some quick text. And all in a sudden, the conventional T9 predictive text feels like a thing from the past. But even typing on such QWERTY keypads can’t give you the flowing accuracy of a typical PC keyboard.

ShapeWriter Android App Features

Android ShapeWriter app brings an easy solution to this problem. Instead of the usual tapping-on-the-letter way of typing on a virtual keypad, ShapeWriter lets you form words by stringing together the required letters by simply moving your fingers over them, on the keypad. Even though it may make one skeptical in the beginning, as to the ease of use of the said feature, using it for sometime makes you realize that the learning curve is not that steep to climb. Another advantage of ShapeWriter app is that it works pretty well for all types of messaging, no matter whether it is SMS, emails or typing notes.

shapewriter-android-app

If to demonstrate the working of ShapeWriter through an example, to type ‘Android’, begin with ‘A’ and continue to move your finger over the other letters in the word. The app will use its inbuilt dictionary to determine the word you’re attempting to spell, even if your finger touches the fringes of some other letter on the keypad. If the app gets your word wrong, it suggests possible alternatives, much like the standard Android virtual keyboard.

Usability

On usability front, since the letters on the virtual keypad are small, the chances of you hitting the wrong keys on the way are more. Even though, with practice, you could improve your precision %, still the very nature of the job, which involves gliding your fingers over the letters on the keypad, encompasses a certain constant percentage of uncertainty. The ‘suggestive’ part of the app comes handy to the users in this context.

Final Thoughts

ShapeWriter is best suited for resistive touchpad Android handsets. If you use the app with a stylus, there is a better chance that you’ll type the words precisely most of the times. The inbuilt dictionary helps you to find the right words, even if you err in typing. Definitely it takes some practice to get used to the nuances of Android ShapeWriter app. But being a free app, it does not hurt anyone to install it in your handset, and try it out at least once.
