iMovie app for iPhone is a decent on-device editing application, even though feature-wise it can’t match its desktop version. But that is understandable, given the resource limitations of an iPhone versus PC. iMovie app for iPhone is available from download from iTunes Apple Store for $4.99 per license.
The App
iPhone iMovie app lets you trim movie clips, merge clips and add titles. Further, you can add transitions and images. What the user needs to do is to import the videos and photos you want to merge together, and they’ll be put in a timeline in the order you have added them, with a transition title in between. Tapping on the transition marker gives the option to choose from a select few effects and adjust the time you want the transitions to last for. Further you can trim the clips by tapping on clips and sliding the orange marker to either end, to choose the start/end of the clip. The app does not allow you to cut the clips, even though it permits you to import the same clips multiple times and trim them to get the clips you want.
Deleting a clip in the app is interesting; you just slide the clip off the page. Further, in the iMovie iPhone application, in order to add location, title or music bed, simply tap on the clip and add the relevant information from the popup box. Once done with the editing, export the clip, which in turn compresses the final clip, thereby making it easier to share via email or upload to Youtube. Compressing the video might affect its quality a bit. But for videos whose contents matter most than the quality, iMovie works just fine for you.
Conclusion
iMovie app for iPhone offers everything that you might need to do some video editing in your iPhone. It is quick, and easy to use, and in conjunction with the topnotch video sharing capability of iPhone 4, it just works wonders. If you have a WiFi connection around, it can’t get any better. True, it can’t provide the entire features of a Video editor. But if are looking for an iPhone application that could do some quick trimming or compress videos with titles/transitions, iMovie totally fits the bill. iMovie mobile application comes with a price tag of $4.99. However, given the features it offers to the users, the app is certainly worth the money.
