Last Horizon Game for iPhone Review
Last Horizon for iPhone is an atmospheric space survival game wherein you got to explore and survive with minimum resources. In the game, you got to pilot a last vessel of a fallen civilization into the vast unknown, in search of a new habitable world. Last Horizon can be downloaded for $2.99.
Features
Last Horizon for iPhone got a simple and clean UI that will appeal to fans of minimalistic designs. As the action takes place in space, the background is rendered with a nice mix of dark color gradients. The planets are shown as round, colored circles with their own unique colors and glowing auras that contrast nicely with the backdrops. The animations are slick and smooth. The soundtrack augurs well with the action unfolding in front of you. Strangely, the text that pop up is in small fonts and difficult to read. The players embark on an infinite journey across the dark space, trying to survive on just a few resources, such as oxygen and fuel. There aren’t any levels in the game. You just navigate through the space and explore the planets that your compass points out to you. But, there are four different flights – A, B, C, and X – that you can embark on; this can be equated to different difficulty levels that you got to unlock after a certain point. As you find planets and land on them to gather resources to survive, you’ll earn points. The different planets are worth different amount of points. The game ends when your ship sustains too much damage or if you run out of oxygen.
The controls of Last Horizon are intuitive and easy to learn. But it takes some amount of practice to master. Controls at bottom left and right of the screen help you maneuver the spacecraft. The oxygen level is shown on the upper-right of the screen. Landing on planets take a bit of practice. You can’t just crash onto a planet. Instead, you got to ease your way on to the surface. Once you land, your ship will repair itself and refill the fuel and oxygen levels as you are gathering resources. But be warned that you can’t spend too much time on a planet as it will anger the extra terrestrial life forms, and that is something that you don’t want to happen. Last Horizon game requires iOS 5.1 or later.
Conclusion
The endless nature of Last Horizon for iPhone gives it a fair bit of replay value as you can always try and improve on your score. It also offers full Game Center support for leaderboards on all flights and a handful of achievements to obtain. The game play is fun, yet challenging. The graphics is decent while the atmospheric soundtrack is a delight to the ears. We found the game to be pretty stable as well. Check it out if you love space themed endless running games.
