Features

Dark Echo for Android is a minimalistic horror game designed on the premise that sound is everything. It is your guiding light in darkness. You, the player, are represented by a pair of small white footprints on screen. As you move through the pitch darkness, you make noise, which is represented by white lines radiating from your footprints. The sound waves or noise lines, as you can call them, bounces of obstacles – including evil things – ahead to give you a better understanding of your surroundings. These lines represent everything physical in Dark Echo for Android. Water is represented by blue lines, locked doors radiate yellow lines, while exit doors – the goal of each level – flares off thick white lines. Those evil things that are after you are red lines. The soundtrack is excellent. It does an excellent job in bringing you into dark world of Dark Echo as it syncs it up with the limited visuals until you feel that you’re there in the middle of the dark world, and you only got your ears to find your way forward. When you’re stationary, the soundtrack offers just enough creepy sound effects like howling winds whereas when you start to move, it virtually pushes you to the edge of your seat.

Dark Echo for Android also requires you to solve puzzles while running blind through the hallway. The blue lines, the water, slow you down, but not the evil thing chasing you. So, you got to distract it by letting it chase you to a dark corner. Of course, you can tiptoe your way past the evil thing without getting heard. The game has 80 levels that will make your heart race and leave you with an irrational fear of red lines. The soundtrack is best experienced if played with a headphone.

Conclusion

Dark Echo is one of the creepiest games you’ll ever get to play for you can’t tell for sure whether you’re chased by a serial killer, monster or some zombie. The soundtrack and later on, your imagination, scare the wits out of you as you progress through the levels. Remember, everything you ‘see’ is based on your inference based on reflected sound. Otherwise, it is pitch darkness around. And in the darkness, you got to explore, solve puzzles, and most importantly – stay alive. How far you manage to do that forms the crux of the game. Check it out if you’re a fan of spooky games with a fresh concept.
