GoodPlayer App for iPhone Review

| October 23, 2011 | 0 Comments

GoodPlayer app is a handy iOS application that lets users view a variety of video formats in their iPhones, without having to convert them to MP4 files. GoodPlayer app for iPhone comes as a worthy replacement to the now dumped out VLC app, but with more features and yes, a slightly higher price tag at $2.99 per license.

How GoodPlayer iPhone App Works?

GoodPlayer iPhone application plays the common video formats such as AVI, WMV and MPG, alongside few more, some of which, I’ve never heard of to be honest. If you want to know which are those, here is an incomplete list of file types supported by the application: AVI, Xvid, Divx, DAT, FLV, WMV, VOB, MKV, MP4, RM, AC3, m4v,m4r,m4a , dv,eac3,f4v, RMVB, HTTP, FTP, RTSP, MMS, SMB, MMST, MMSH, UPnP RTP, and UDP.

To start with, the first step is to load the videos to the app. This can be done directly via iTunes or using WiFi through a Web URL/FTP portal. In fact, GoodPlayer is potent enough to draw media from other sources as well. There is a globe icon on the bottom-right of the main screen that gives you multiple options to do so, including Downloader & Browser, Input Direct Streaming URL, WebDAV Client etc. Swipe fingers up/down on playing, to change the subtitle or turn off subtitle on the fly, while swiping fingers left/right on playing changes the audio track on the fly (media files with multiple audio tracks).

GoodPlayer app’s settings selection deserves credit. In the app, you can adjust subtitles, toggle plug-ins, change UI appearance, and adjust playback characteristics alongside managing audio/video settings.

However, GoodPlayer app for iPhone seems to have some troubles playing large-sized high definition video files. But then it is still better than how VLC performed with similar-sized video files.

Conclusion

GoodPlayer iPhone mobile app offers what it promises. It is easy to use, reliable, robust, and comes with added features and options than its erstwhile competitor, VLC for iPhone. Even though it stutters a bit while playing large video files, the app does well in handling a multitude of video formats. Even though GoodPlayer is not a free app unlike VLC, the app is still a worthy buy, given the utility it brings to the table.

PS: GoodPlayer iPhone app only works with iOS 3.2 and above, and in iPhones 3GS and iPhone4.
