PitchBop for iPhone is a melodic ear training software that helps you strengthen the relationship between your ear and your instrument by directly correlating skill level to performance accuracy. PitchBop offers a performance-like situation where you listen and play your instrument or use your voice, unlike other ear training applications where you respond by tapping on a screen without addressing the rhythmic component of what you hear.

How Ear Training App Works

Dr. Bop, PitchBop’s resident jazz cat, uses the ‘Call and Response’ approach to play a brief phrase for you to listen to and then gives you the same amount of time to repeat the phrase back to him to evaluate your accuracy. Dr. Bop employs the ‘Call and Response’ technique, in which he plays a brief sentence for you to listen to and then gives you the same amount of time to repeat the phrase back to him to assess your accuracy. After the session, you’ll receive feedback on how well you performed, and the difficulty level will be adjusted based on your performance, so you can focus on playing rather than fiddling with the settings.

Great Features!

We can adjust the pitch complexity using the app where on a scale of 1 to 9, PitchBop generates calls with different levels of pitch complexity. Set the level of difficulty with this slider. Inorder to select a Musical Instrument, we can set our available range, press the instrument name to view a list of instrument options, then tap the name of your instrument. PitchBop works with a broad range of instruments, including our own voice. We can set the metronome’s volume and select whether you want all four beats, one and three, two and four, or any other combination of beats. To track our progress, we can have a go through the Profile tab. Included in the Practice Mode options are complexity of Pitch, Complexity of Rhythm, Tempo, Scale, Range, Always begin with root on/off, the number of calls per session, Swing/Even, On/off chromatic notes. Rhythm is still a significant component of the game, even though the app is called PitchBop. Users should pay close attention to the beat and strive to replicate it as accurately as possible. Your score will be reduced if you respond in a non-rhythmic manner.
