A lot of criticism has been made about how the Android creative application market just isn’t at par with what iTunes has to offer. In a sense it is true as well. While there are dozens of areas wherein Android is clearly superior to iOS. But if you’re looking for apps to make movies, beats or photos, it can often be a crapshoot at the Google Play Store. However, recently we came across this one – WavePad Master’s Edition – that provides a clear, touch-friendly way to edit and record audio with your Android phone. The app’s price tag is a rather steep $14.99.

Features

Don’t see WavePad Master’s Edition app for Android as a competition to GarageBand. Instead, you can view it as something akin to Audacity for the desktop. It provides the users with a quick, manageable digital audio workstation. The app is also optimized to be finger controlled as you’re using it on your phone eventually. Using the app, you can import audio clips, and then chop, split or mix them at will. WavePad Master’s Edition for Android provides a finger ready means to manage the EQ, envelope, reverb, echo, panning, normalization, and even amplification. Other notable features include the ability to trim sound bites out of longer audio files, reduce vocals from a music track, scrub, search, and bookmark audio for precise editing. The app supports sample rates from 6 to 96kHz, stereo or mono, 8, 16, 24 or 32 bits, as well as batch processing that allows you to apply effects and/or convert thousands of files as a single function.

WavePad Master’s Edition Android App

Of course, WavePad Master’s Edition supports almost all audio and music file formats including mp3, wav, vox, gsm, wma, au, aif, flac, real audio, ogg, aac, m4a, mid, amr etc. In short, the app comes bundled with all the essential professional tools that one would expect in a virtual music studio. But certainly we would have liked to see extended integration with MIDI controllers or even just some realistic amp racks for the guitar gear head. A bit more on the recording end would have been great.

Conclusion

WavePad Master’s Edition is a robust, easy to use and feature loaded music and audio editing suit for Android. It has all the professional tools one would expect from such a virtual studio app. The app essentially works as a wav or mp3 editor, but it also supports a number of other file formats as well. It is user friendly as well. The price tag is a bit on the higher side. But given the features the app brings to the table, you won’t regret the money spent, especially if you’re seriously into music editing and mixing.
